Finding Ways to Improve Mental Health Outcomes and Access

Within the Division of Psychiatry at Cincinnati Children’s, many of the providers who care for your child also do research. Most of our research is clinical and translational. With clinical research, we study ways to improve how we diagnose, prevent and treat mental health disorders. Translational research connects what we find in the lab to how we practice healthcare with our patients.

Research Areas in Psychiatry

Some of the areas we explore with our research include:

  • How the brain changes and functions (pathophysiology) with conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, Angelman syndrome, fragile X syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Suicide prevention
  • Ways to predict violent and high-risk behaviors
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatments

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials and research studies help us understand more about mental health conditions and how to treat them. They also give patients and families who participate access to the newest treatments and approaches to medicine. View our current list of clinical trials for psychiatry to learn more.

If you’re interested in a specific clinical trial, contact the coordinator listed for that study. They will answer any questions and discuss next steps.

If you don’t see a clinical trial that fits your condition or need, talk to your provider or email researchinpsychiatry@cchmc.org.
