Conditions We Treat
Our Classical Hematology specialists treat conditions including:
- Congenital dyserythropoietic anemia: A rare, inherited type of anemia that causes abnormal production of red blood cells
- G6PD deficiency: A disease in which the body is missing an enzyme that helps red blood cells function
- Hemolytic anemia: A disorder where red blood cells are destroyed faster than they can be made
- Hereditary spherocytosis: An inherited blood condition that causes production of spherical blood cells leading to breakdown of the red blood cells
- Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP): A rare platelet disorder that causes low platelet count and prevents the blood from clotting properly
- Iron deficiency anemia: A common type of anemia in which the body doesn’t have enough iron to produce red blood cells
- Neutropenia: A disorder where neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, are reduced. This group of conditions includes but is not limited to severe congenital neutropenia and autoimmune neutropenia. We also diagnose and counsel individuals who have normal variation in their neutrophil count called Duffy-null associated neutrophil count (DANC)
- Polycythemia or erythrocytosis: A condition in which the body has too many red blood cells
- Thrombocytosis: A disorder where the body has too many platelets
