Surgical or Medical Treatment for Pediatric Type 2 Diabetes
Bariatric surgery in teens has beneficial effects on weight loss. Initial studies show bariatric surgery may also help improve blood glucose control in teens with type 2 diabetes. We are studying the effects of bariatric surgery on blood glucose control and diabetes related health outcomes. We are comparing surgery to newer type 2 diabetes medications to see if the same outcomes can be achieved with medications and lifestyle modification.
