Offering State-of-the-Art Instrumentation for Imaging

The Imaging Research Center (IRC) occupies approximately 7,200 square feet of dedicated laboratory space in the R, S and T buildings of Cincinnati Children’s Burnet Campus. The IRC has numerous MRI scanners dedicated exclusively to research activities, including three 3T whole-body MR scanners for human subjects research (Philips Elition™ 3.0T, Philips Ingenia™ 3.0T, and Philips Achieva™ 3.0T X-series), two 1.5T MR scanners for human subjects research (Philips Ingenia™ 1.5T and GE / ONI 1.5T), and a 7T small-animal MR scanner (Bruker Avance™).

In addition, the IRC has a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory (Philips FD20) dedicated for large animal use. This cath lab is connected to the wide-bore 1.5T system for multi-modality studies. The 1.5T MR scanners and the large animal cath lab are BSL-2 capable.

All the imaging equipment is maintained to clinical standards, and identical MRI scanners and cath labs are found in our Department of Radiology at Cincinnati Children’s.
