3 Reasons to Conduct Your Postdoctoral Fellowship Training in Cincinnati
Many organizations throughout the world offer postdoctoral fellowship programs. But Cincinnati Children’s—and the Cincinnati community—have standout qualities you can’t find just anywhere.
1. We Have the Resources You Need to Further Your Research
Cincinnati Children’s is consistently regarded as one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals. And we have an equally impressive history of scientific discovery.
When we opened the Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation in 1931, we became the first pediatric hospital in the country to have a building dedicated solely to research. Since then, our researchers have made numerous discoveries that have led to breakthrough medical treatments.
Today, nearly 100 years later, research is as important as ever. That’s why we continue to invest in our research infrastructure and other resources—including fellowship programs that train the next generation of scientists.
Our postdoctoral fellows benefit from:
- Access to shared facilities. Our shared research facilities include the Cell Manipulations Laboratory, the Genomics Sequencing Facility and the Research Flow Cytometry Facility.
- Faculty mentorship. We encourage our postdocs to form a mentoring committee with their adviser and at least two other faculty from their field of interest. These committee members will monitor your progress, offer career advice and prepare you to eventually mentor others. Learn more about individual faculty members and the labs they oversee.
- Collaboration. Cincinnati Children’s researchers and clinicians work together to bring new therapies from the bench to the bedside. Our postdocs frequently team up with basic science researchers from other labs, as well as faculty from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. And because we integrate our medical and research teams, you have access to clinical resources such as biospecimens.
- Grant-writing support. Staff from our Office of Postdoctoral Affairs can connect you with the resources you need to create high-quality grant proposals.
We also offer research support services that can help you manage data, comply with regulations, protect intellectual property, assist with commercialization and more.
2. Our Postdocs Receive Employee Benefits
All postdoctoral researchers at Cincinnati Children’s receive a comprehensive benefits package. Highlights include:
- Medical, dental and vision insurance - Cincinnati Children's offers three comprehensive medical plans at varying coverage levels and costs. J1 Visa holders are subject to medical coverage minimum requirements.
- Short Term Disability - This Cincinnati Children’s benefit provides income when you are unable to work due to a disability. Eligible employees will receive 100% of their pay for an approved medical leave up to 6 weeks, followed by 80% of their pay for the remaining leave. Birth mothers receive this benefit (6 weeks – 8 weeks, depending on delivery) to recover from childbirth.
- Parental Leave Program - Eligible employees will receive 2 weeks of paid leave for the birth or an adoption of a child
- Paid time off
- Retirement plans
- Tuition reimbursement
- The minimum post-doctoral fellow salary aligns with the NIH extramural pay scale
Relocation assistance (for individuals moving from more than 50 miles away) is available in exchange for a two-year work commitment. We’ve also partnered with local real estate company Huff Realty to provide relocation support to all employees, including postdoctoral fellows. Huff Realty can provide information about Cincinnati’s communities, neighborhoods, schools and daycare centers. They also can help you purchase a home or help you secure temporary housing, an apartment or a rental home.
