When your child has a rare lung disease, finding clear answers can feel overwhelming. Many families have never heard of these conditions before diagnosis, and local providers may have limited experience treating them. At Cincinnati Children's Rare Lung Diseases Program, we partner with families to understand their child's condition, answer questions and develop the best plan for care.

Our team diagnoses and treats children with complex conditions including interstitial lung disease (ILD), bronchiolitis obliterans, pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP), chronic lung disease related to immune disorders and rheumatologic lung disease. Each year, we care for nearly 385 patients using advanced testing, innovative treatments and a collaborative approach designed around each child's needs.

Advanced Testing and Innovative Treatments

Finding the right diagnosis is the first step toward better care. Our program offers advanced imaging, including Chest HRCT and Xenon MRI, specialized pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, sleep studies, genetic testing and several lung biopsy techniques. We are also one of only a few pediatric centers that performs whole lung lavage for children with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP). These specialized services help families receive answers that may not be available elsewhere.
