Discover Together Biobank is outfitted with a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation to support biospecimen processing, storage, and distribution:
- Two AutoGen Flex STAR+ automated DNA extraction instruments (DNA from up to 5 mL of whole blood, 4 mL saliva, swabs, buccal swabs)
- Two Lunatic DropSense 96 multichannel spectrophotometers for high throughput nucleic acid quality measurement
- Tecan automated liquid handler to increase throughput
- Multiple Biosafety Cabinets for isolation of biofluids (plasma, serum, urine, etc)
- -80℃, -20℃ upright freezers, and 4℃ refrigerators with nearby pre-cooled backups to provide a comprehensive range of biospecimen storage solutions
- Chart MVE LN2 freezer units to provide liquid nitrogen vapor-phase storage for cells and other sample types requiring ultra-cold storage environments
- K2 Cell Counter to measure cell viability and live/dead counts on isolated cells
- -20℃ cold tables to keep biospecimens frozen during sample pulls
- 24/7, 7 day a week redundant facility monitoring systems with emergency backup power
- SBS-racked tubes, 1D and 2D barcoding capability, high speed SBS rack scanners for rapid scanning of barcoded tubes
