Bioengineering Techniques for the Future of Organoid Generation

The goal of the Xue lab is to create miniature human organs using stem cells to unravel disease mechanism, improve drug development, and advance personalized regenerative medicine. Specifically, we develop various bioengineering techniques to precisely control the environment of stem cells, including microfluidics, 3D bioprinting, optogenetics, and cell mechanics tools. Through these methods, we aim to guide stem cell pattern formation and morphogenesis to build the next generation human organoids with high reproducibility, complexity, and fidelity.
We are particularly interested in developing bioengineered human neural organoids which recapitulate the dynamic formation of different neural regions and neural circuits to study the inter-regional interactions.
