Center for Stem Cell & Organoid Medicine (CuSTOM)

Working to Create Healthier Tomorrows

Stem cells have the potential to transform personalized medicine and the treatment of childhood diseases. They could offer new hope to children and their families.

About Our Research

Cincinnati Children’s has a long history of medical breakthroughs. Our multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians and entrepreneurs are using advances in developmental biology and stem cell to create miniature organs (organoids) from patient stem cells. We use organoids to understand disease mechanisms, develop new personalized treatments and, ultimately, generate tissue to replace a patient’s damaged organs.

We have several specialty research areas. Our center also houses the Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility, which advances stem cell (hPSC) and organoid technologies throughout the institution.

Join Our Team

We welcome scientists and commercial partners who share our passion for innovative research.

  • New faculty: CuSTOM is recruiting tenure-track faculty using stem cells and organoids to study human development or disease.
  • Fellows: We are seeking motivated postdoctoral fellows interested in cutting-edge organoid research.
  • Clinical translation and commercial partners: It is crucial to get our discoveries to the patients who need them. Through our CuSTOM Accelerator, we collaborate with pharmaceutical companies to translate our innovations to the clinic. We want to partner with companies and institutions on this work to accelerate the application of organoid technology.
