About the Khurana Hershey Lab

In the Khurana Hershey lab, we believe that a thriving research community is built on collaboration, support and mutual respect. Our lab culture is centered around hands-on mentoring, where every team member is empowered to grow and succeed. We prioritize continuous learning and foster both professional and personal development in a supportive environment.

Beyond daily research, we place a strong emphasis on providing our team with opportunities to engage with the broader scientific community. We encourage current trainees to showcase their work at local, national, and international events, including UC-sponsored events such as the Graduate Student Poster Symposium and specialized meetings like those of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI), the American Thoracic (ATS), and the American Association of Immunologists (AAI).

We also actively engage undergraduate students through our innovative Asthma Immersive Research Experience (AIRE) program, providing them with valuable exposure to clinical and laboratory research at a formative stage of their careers.

To maintain a sense of community and camaraderie, we meet regularly for lab meetings, journal club, database, and manuscript meetings. We also bond during our semi-annual lab clean up days which are followed by a pizza party, as well as our annual Halloween and Holiday parties. These activities create opportunities to connect outside of research, making our lab feel like much more than just a workplace.
