Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship
The ACGME-accredited Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship Program at Cincinnati Children’s offers a broad exposure to pediatric inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. It also provides excellent research training through both didactics and faculty mentorship. We offer one- and two-year programs, depending on the fellows’ previous training and qualifications needed to sit for PRM certification.
Facilities
Our 12-bed CARF-accredited pediatric inpatient rehabilitation unit is located in a free-standing 629-bed tertiary pediatric hospital. All pediatric subspecialties at Cincinnati Children’s refer patients to us for inpatient services. We also receive referrals from other regional and national medical centers.
Frequent referring services at Cincinnati Children’s include the divisions of:
The average daily census on the inpatient unit is eight patients. Consultation from all pediatric subspecialties is available at all times as necessary.
Outpatient / Multidisciplinary Experiences
We give fellows the opportunity to gain significant hands-on experience in our general pediatric rehabilitation clinics. Fellows participate in new and follow-up evaluations, spasticity management and follow-up of patients who are discharged from the inpatient unit. Some of these patients are seen in a general pediatric rehabilitation clinic, while others may be seen in a specialty-specific or multidisciplinary clinic. Faculty members are involved in many multidisciplinary clinics in which fellows will participate, including:
- Neuromuscular (Muscular Dystrophy Association)
- Myelomeningocele
- Cerebral Palsy
- Neuro-Oncology
- Brachial Plexus
- Wheelchair and Seating
- Limb Deficiency
- Pediatric Stroke
- Concussion Clinic
Procedural Training
Fellows will be trained in procedures unique to and identifiable with the field of rehabilitation medicine, including EMG and nerve conduction studies, phenol neurolysis, botulinum toxin injections and intrathecal baclofen pump management.
Mentorship
Faculty from the Division of Rehabilitation Medicine and other divisions at Cincinnati Children’s provide mentorship for our fellows. Our faculty includes seven physicians trained in pediatric rehabilitation medicine and one full-time PhD faculty researcher.
