Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center offers two (2) one-year pediatric neuroradiology fellowship positions each year to exceptional candidates who have successfully completed a neuroradiology or pediatric radiology fellowship. As one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, Cincinnati Children's is the main referral hub in a four-state region and also receives clinical and surgical referrals from locations around the world. It houses one of the nation’s busiest pediatric emergency rooms and level 1 trauma centers for children.

Pediatric neuroradiology fellows are exposed to a wide breadth of pathology and all facets of pediatric neuroimaging, including brain, head & neck, and spine imaging. Fellows are also provided opportunities to engage in fetal imaging and interventional neuroradiology procedures, if desired. The training program focuses on proficiency in exam protocolling, supervision, post-processing, and image interpretation across all cross-sectional modalities. Advanced imaging such as perfusion imaging, functional imaging, and MR spectroscopy are routinely performed, further enhancing the educational experience. Intra-operative MRI and US are an integral part of the training program and are widely regarded by neurosurgical colleagues. By the end of the year, fellows will have been exposed to the full range of pediatric neuroimaging and will be well-prepared to pursue clinical or academic pediatric neuroradiology careers.

Fellows are afforded dedicated academic time weekly throughout the year during which they work with faculty mentors to pursue educational and research projects. The neuroradiology section is prolific in its publications and presents numerous educational and research presentations at prestigious scientific meetings annually. Fellows receive an educational fund, which they may use to purchase reference materials or use to attend regional or national conferences.

Pediatric neuroradiology fellows work various daytime and evening shifts throughout the week under neuroradiology faculty supervision. Fellows also work occasional weekend day shifts with neuroradiology faculty throughout the year.

  • Board certified or board eligible in diagnostic radiology
  • Successful completion of a neuroradiology or pediatric radiology fellowship (prior to the program start date)

The pediatric neuroradiology fellowship curriculum optimally balances clinical experience with teaching and research opportunities. The radiology department at Cincinnati Children's offers daily lectures and clinical conferences from imaging experts across all sub-specialty areas, many of which pertain to neuroimaging. Seven neuroradiology faculty present didactic lectures throughout the year to highlight critical topics in neuroimaging. Each fellow is responsible for presenting didactic lectures and case conferences for pediatric radiology fellows and radiology residents during their year of training.

The pediatric neuroradiology fellows actively participate in weekly neuro-oncology and the ever-popular interdisciplinary neuroradiology conferences. Fellows may also participate in epilepsy, neuro-vascular, otolaryngology, fetal, and non-accidental trauma conferences.
