What To Expect
Domestic Visitors are those who come to our center from within the United States.
Upon acceptance into the Visitor’s Program, visitors are provided with a detailed itinerary of what to expect for the duration of their stay. We will help you every step of the way, from helping you familiarize yourself with the hospital to finding accommodations. We are excited to have you with us and want to ensure you are comfortable and able to get the most out of your time here.
Attendings
We welcome any attending who would like to visit. However, only those attendings who have certification from the Ohio State Medical Board and have been invited to visit from a faculty member after referring a patient to the Division of Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery for care, are eligible to scrub in for surgery.
During your visit, attendings can expect to:
- Observe surgery from a classroom and / or operating room setting. (Please note, international visiting surgeons are not able to physically operate during their visit. They may only observe our surgeons in the operating room or in a classroom).
- Participate in the continue care of the referring patient care plan
- Attend informational lectures at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, as well as the University of Cincinnati
- Shadow in-patient rounds

Students
We welcome students at least 16 years of age who are currently enrolled in high school (Junior or Senior), college or medical school.
Students who visit us are exposed to a variety of resources to aid in their medical education. However, unless you are a medical student, the visitor’s program is for personal education only. Our program does not offer credit for rotations. At the end of the course, every student will receive a certificate verifying how many hours they shadowed.
All visiting medical students who want to rotate in Pediatric Surgery for credit, must apply through the University of Cincinnati.
During your visit, students can expect to:
- Observe surgeries from a classroom and/or OR setting
- Under escort by an attending, shadow patient rounds
- Attend informational lectures at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, as well as the University of Cincinnati
