Down Syndrome Study for Children 18 to 47 Months Old

Why are we doing this research?

Cincinnati Children's is conducting a research study, sometimes known as a clinical trial or clinical study, to learn more about how early motor skills affect overall health in children with Down syndrome. We are specifically looking at how motor abilities are related to later physical activity.

Who can participate?

Children 18 months to 47 months old who are:

  • Diagnosed with Down syndrome
  • English speaking

Conditions

  • Down Syndrome
  • Disabilities: Developmental

What will happen in the study?

This study includes 2 visits each year for 3 years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. These are the things that will happen to your child while in the study:

Your child will:

  • Play games
  • Have developmental assessments

Answer questions

You, as the parent or guardian will:

  • Answer questions about your child

You and your child will be given a consent form that thoroughly explains the details of the study. A member of the study staff will review the consent form with you and will be sure that your questions are answered.

What are the good things that can happen from this research?

Your child may not have a direct benefit from participating in this study. However, we hope to learn information from the study that may help us with more effective treatments for Down syndrome in the future.

What are the bad things that can happen from this research?

It is not expected that you or your child will be exposed to any risk by participating in this research study.

A detailed list of possible side effects will be provided to those participants, parents or guardians interested in knowing more about this study.

Will you/your child be paid to be in this research study?

Participants will receive up to $300 for time and effort.
