Cow’s Milk Allergy Study For Infants and Children 3 Months to 12 Years Old

Why are we doing this research?

Cincinnati Children's is conducting a research study to confirm that a milk protein-based formula will minimize the possibility of an allergic reaction in infants and children with a confirmed cow’s milk allergy. We want to confirm that the broken-down milk protein-based formula will reduce or minimize the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Who can participate?

Infants and children 3 months to 12 years old with a confirmed cow’s milk allergy.

Conditions

  • Allergy

What will happen in the study?

If your child qualifies and you decide you want your child to be in the study, you will come to Cincinnati Children’s up to 4 times over a period of 2 months. These are the things that will happen while in the study:

We will ask you or your child to:

  • Receive a cow’s milk skin prick test, if needed
  • Consume the experimental formula
  • Consume a formula sold in stores
  • Record your child’s tolerance, intake and stool information over 1 week of taking the study formula at home

What are the good things that can happen from this research?

Your child may receive no direct benefit from participating in this study. However, we hope to learn information from the study that may help us with more effective treatments for cow’s milk allergy in the future. Research studies are essential in finding new and improved treatments and diagnostic tools.

What are the bad things that can happen from this research?

Possible risks and discomforts will be discussed with those interested in learning more about the study.

Will you/your child be paid to be in this research study?

Participants and caregivers will be compensated for their time and effort. The participant may receive up to $800.
