Concussion Study for Children and Teens 11 to 17 Years Old

Why are we doing this research?

Cincinnati Children's is conducting a research study, sometimes known as a clinical trial or clinical study, to explore mental health outcomes after a concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). We aim to gather perspectives from adolescents and their parents/guardians on factors that may contribute to or alleviate mental health symptoms following a concussion.

Who can participate?

Children and teens 11 to 17 years old who have had a mild traumatic brain injury or concussion within the last 3 weeks may participate.

Conditions

  • Concussion - Head Injury
  • Headaches - Migraines
  • Neurology

What will happen in the study?

This study involves participation in online surveys at three (3) timepoints. These surveys can take up to 60 minutes to complete. During this study, you or your child will be asked to complete surveys at the following timepoints:

  • Baseline (within 3 weeks of injury)
  • 1-month after injury
  • 3-months after injury

You and your child will be given a consent form that thoroughly explains all details of the study. A member of the study staff will review the consent form with you and will be sure your questions are answered.

What are the good things that can happen from this research?

Your child may or may not receive any benefits from taking part in the study. The results of this study may provide information that could help improve available treatment in the future.

What are the bad things that can happen from this research?

We will discuss possible risks or discomforts with those interested in learning more about the study.

Will you/your child be paid to be in this research study?

Participants will receive up to $150 for their time and effort.
