This is a University of Cincinnati research study to look at the long-term safety of the study medication iloperidone in the treatment of teens with bipolar I disorder or schizophrenia.
Teens 13 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with bipolar I or schizophrenia may be eligible to participate.
Your child will be in this study for up to 56 weeks. If interested in this study, we can talk to you to see if your child might be eligible for the study. At that time, we will tell you about all the study details and be sure that all of your questions are answered. And we will give you and your child a study consent form that thoroughly explains all the details of the study.
Your child may or may not receive any benefit(s) from participating in this study. It is possible that they may feel better, stay the same, or feel worse. Participation in this study may help scientists understand more about iloperidone, schizophrenia, and bipolar I disorder and may help other teens with schizophrenia or bipolar I disorder to receive more effective treatments in the future. During your child's participation in the research study, they will be seen by a study doctor regularly.
We will discuss possible risks or discomforts with you and your child prior to the start of the study.
You and your child will be compensated (paid) for your time and travel (to and from the study doctor’s office) in this study and also for your overall participation in this research study.
