  • Do not persuade, give advice, command, warn, preach, label, ridicule, or analyze.

     
  • Do not raise your voice at the end, turning a reflection into a question.

     
  • Do not use a judgmental, accusatory, sarcastic, OR eager tone of voice.

     
  • Do not overuse the same stem (e.g., “It sounds like…”).

     
  • Do not change the subject.

     
  • Do not worry about making too many reflective statements.
