Critical care expansion moves ahead
Cincinnati City Council has approved the zoning and street restructure needed for Cincinnati Children’s planned critical care expansion. The 6-3 vote in favor means the project can move forward. Enabling work on roads and utilities will start this month. Excavation of the site is expected to begin in July 2018.
The expansion includes a 600,000 square foot clinical tower located north of and connected to Location B, with:
- 224 new beds for PICU, CICU, NICU and Bone Marrow Transplant
- Embedded operating rooms for Cardiac and Fetal Surgery
- New Emergency Department and Urgent Care
- Helipad
- Kitchen and dining space
- Support space for employees and families
- Pharmacy, Laboratory and Sterile Processing expansions
- Expanded loading dock
- Addition of approximately 1,100 parking spaces to the Northern Avenue Garage
- Repurposing and renovation of older patient rooms.
Northern Avenue Garage construction is slated to start this November. The critical care tower is expected to be ready for occupancy in January 2022.
