Leaving a legacy at Cincinnati Children's

Staff Bulletin. For many of us, working at Cincinnati Children’s is more than a job—it’s a calling. We come to work each day because we believe in creating a better, brighter future for children here and around the world. And, for many of us, that commitment goes beyond the hours we work here.

"If there is one thing that continues to astound me every day, it’s the generosity of our employees and families," says Stacy Christman Blomeke, JD, director of gift planning in the Department of Development at Cincinnati Children’s. "Many of our staff and their families left a gift for Cincinnati Children's in their estate. These bequests enable the medical center to provide the best possible care for the children and families we serve, expand clinical and research programs and endow key faculty positions."

However, life changes fast. What you set in place a few years ago may not reflect your current situation. That’s why Blomeke recommends reviewing and updating your will every two or three years. "Typically, your will includes instructions on how you want to distribute your assets and take care of your family," she notes. "But your family’s needs will likely change many times over the course of your life, so updating your will is critical."

Updating your will is also the perfect time to ensure that the distribution of your assets reflects your personal values, including designating gifts to charities and organizations you believe in – like Cincinnati Children’s. Wills are a powerful tool to ensure that the legacy you leave behind reflects your values and your life.

"Reviewing and updating your estate plan will ensure your values are upheld for generations to come," says Blomeke. "It’s the best way to make sure your support is designated to your family and to organizations that mean the most to you."
