Cincinnati Children’s Ranks Among Nation’s Best by U.S. News

Cincinnati Children’s ranks third in the nation for the sixth consecutive year among all Honor Roll hospitals in U.S.News & World Report’s 2016-17 Best Children’s Hospitals ranking.

“I’m grateful to our employees for their passion, talent and dedication. They make these outstanding results possible,” said Michael Fisher, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children’s. “I also want to thank the families and patients who place their trust in us for care. We are changing the outcome together.”

The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings highlight the top 50 pediatric facilities in the nation in 10 specialties. The methodology reflects the level and quality of hospital resources directly related to:

  • Clinical outcomes, such as patient survival, infection rates and complications
  • Delivery of healthcare, such as programs that prevent infections and adherence to best practices
  • Patient care, such as staffing, technology and special services

Cincinnati Children’s was ranked among the top-five pediatric hospitals in seven of 10 specialties, including a #2 ranking in Nephrology and Gastro/GI Surgery; a #3 ranking in Endocrinology, Pulmonary, Urology and Orthopedic Medicine; and a #4 ranking for Neurology and Neurosurgery. In terms of improvement, Endocrinology moved the most of any specialty, up from #7 last year to #3 this year.

Each hospital’s score is based on a variety of patient outcomes, the delivery of evidence-based processes of care, and the presence of other healthcare resources and supports. The remainder is based on reputation with pediatric subspecialists throughout the US and makes up approximately 15 percent of the total score in this year’s survey.

According to U.S. News, it publishes its rankings to provide patients and families with a tool that could narrow their search for a hospital suited to someone whose difficult procedure, underlying condition or other medical issue calls for an especially high level of skilled care.
