Written and Spoken Language Assistance
When your child needs medical care, clear communication is critical. You should have confidence in your ability to understand any spoken discussions (or written instructions) about their care.
At Cincinnati Children’s, we offer in-person, phone and video interpretation—as well as written translation—for families who don’t speak English. And we offer American Sign Language and other accommodations for patients or families with hearing loss.
We can also help you prior to your visit. We offer nearly 20 language-specific phone numbers for families who need to communicate with us in languages other than English. These phone numbers are called Direct Interpreter Access Lines (DIAL).
The DIAL service connects non-English speaking callers to an interpreter, and then conferences in a Cincinnati Children's operator. The interpreter stays on the line to help facilitate the conversation. A list of DIAL phone numbers can be found below.
