Graduate Medical Education Programs

Graduate medical education (GME) is the continuation of formal training for physicians after they have completed medical school. GME includes residency programs and fellowship programs for sub-specialty training after residency. GME training prepares physicians for the independent practice of medicine in their selected specialty.

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office supports Cincinnati Children's in its educational mission by providing oversight of over 40 ACGME-accredited programs and over 90 additional sub-specialty programs approved by the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC). The GME Office is responsible for ensuring continued ACGME accreditation of Cincinnati Children’s as a sponsoring institution of graduate medical education. The GME Office ensures that accredited programs are compliant with the ACGME Common, Institutional and program-specific requirements.

The GME Office works closely with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), the GME Committee, program directors, faculty, program coordinators and affiliated hospitals in order to ensure a high quality educational experience and exceptional work environment for almost 500 residents and clinical fellows who are pursuing specialty and sub-specialty training.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As an institution, we place great emphasis on creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, valued and respected. This focus on DEI inspires us to listen, learn and understand each other. It makes us better together.

Verification of Training

The GME Office maintains the training archives of physicians who participated in clinical training at Cincinnati Children's and provides verification of training for other hospitals, medical boards and others.

All residency and fellowship verifications must be in writing. The request must include a signed release form, full name (first, middle, last, maiden name if applicable) date of birth, and name of residency or fellowship program. Upon submission, please allow two weeks for a response.
