John R. Liu, DDS

As a pediatric dentist, I aim to ensure that children have a comfortable dental treatment experience. Every child receives my utmost respect and the best dental care I can deliver. No treatment plan is identical. Each one involves an individual child who brings unique variations to how I plan their dental care. Some of my patients are surprised to find out that I am Chinese, and Chinese patients are usually disappointed that I cannot communicate with them in Chinese.

I became interested in this work thanks to the influence of a mentor during dental school. They opened my eyes to the wonder of working with children. I have been actively involved in many professional organizations in the past and now as a faculty member at Cincinnati Children’s. This has allowed me to have an impact on caring for children beyond those I see in my office. I recently received the Distinguished Service Award, which is the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s highest honor, at their 2024 Annual Session.

My wife and I have two grown daughters. One graduated from the University of Washington and remains in Seattle, where we used to live. Our other daughter attends the University of Kentucky. We love living closer to at least one of our daughters, but working at Cincinnati Children’s was the main reason for moving to Ohio! When I’m not working, I love biking along the Little Miami River trail. I also love cooking outdoors with my Traeger, Weber or Blackstone.

While living on the West Coast, we loved soaking in the sun during the winters in Hawaii. Now that we are in Ohio, we have been enjoying the sun and beaches in Florida. We are also looking forward to exploring more recreation and relaxation activities in Ohio.
