About

Biography

I am a pediatrician at the CHECK Foster Care Complex Care Center. I'm particularly interested in caring for children in the foster care system with complex medical conditions. After spending a decade working in the emergency department, I decided to shift my focus from pediatric emergency medicine to meeting the unique needs and challenges of these special children.

My mentor, Jocelyn Elders, MD, encouraged my career path in pediatric medicine. I strive to emulate her dedication to addressing health disparities, promoting preventive care and advocating for the health needs of underserved populations.

After completing my residency training in pediatrics, I practiced pediatric emergency medicine for ten years. During that time, I developed the skills to manage acute medical conditions, handle emergencies and deliver rapid, effective treatment to young patients in need. As I gained experience in pediatrics, I decided to care for children entering foster care who are dealing with complex medical conditions.

I value open communication and collaboration with my patients and their families, and I work to build trusting relationships that help me provide the best possible care. I take the time to listen to my patients and their families, involve them in the decision-making process, and empower them to be active participants in their healthcare journey.

I'm proud and honored to be recognized with these awards: the SAFY Emerging Leader Award (2024), the YWCA Rising Star Award (2013), the Forty Under 40 Award (2013), the MD Award for Excellence in Community Service (2007) and the Clinical Team Award for the CHECK Clinic (2020).

When not caring for my patients, I love traveling, dancing and spending time with my family.

MD: Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA.

Residency: Pediatrics, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, AR.

Certification: Pediatrics, 2008.
