Joe Luria, MD, Named Associate Chief of Staff -- Acute Care Services Joe Luria, MD, has accepted a position as the fourth and final Associate Chief of Staff, joining Drs. Derek Wheeler, Chief of Staff; Patty Manning-Courtney (ACOS – Ambulatory Services); Rich Falcone (ACOS – Surgical Services), and Christy White (ACOS – Destination Excellence) in the Chief of Staff office. 

Luria has been partially serving in this capacity for the past several months, while also acting as the interim director for the Division of Emergency Medicine. In his new role, he will be working with the inpatient medical directors and their Patient Services counterparts to deliver exceptional, safe, affordable care to our patients and their families. In addition, he will continue to work on a number of initiatives within the Chief of Staff office, along with his continued role as a “Safety Officer of the Day.” Luria will also be working very closely with several groups to further define and improve the continued alignment of our operational excellence work, the medical staff, and shared governance.

Luria graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1989. He completed his pediatric residency training at Cincinnati Children’s in 1992 and served as chief resident from 1992-93. After completing his fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine here in 1995, he became an assistant professor of pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Luria moved back to Cincinnati in 1998. During his career at Cincinnati Children’s, Luria served as the hospital Patient Safety Officer from 2005-2007; as associate director of Emergency Medicine from 2007-2015; medical director of the Burnet Campus Emergency Department from 2007-2014; as senior medical director for Emergency Medicine from 2008-2015, and most recently, as the interim division director for Emergency Medicine from 2015-2016. Luria also chaired the Clinical Medical Directors Committee from 2013-2015, and regionally, he served as the Chair of the State of Ohio Trauma Committee from 2000-2006.

Luria brings a wealth of experience, leadership, passion and dedication to his new role. He will continue to serve as an attending physician within the Division of Emergency Medicine.
