Dean Kurth Departs Cincinnati Children's for New Leadership OpportunityC. Dean Kurth, MD, Anesthesiologist-in-Chief, is returning to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to take on the role of Anesthesiologist-in-Chief and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, effective July 1. Kurth spent his formative years there as a medical practitioner. He takes on a substantially larger role now, including pediatric critical care and cardiac critical care.

Says Michael Fisher, president and CEO, “Since 2002, Dean has represented the head and heart of Cincinnati Children’s with a thoughtful and caring approach to his work. He has inspired people at all levels with his commitment to learning, developing others, and always doing the right thing. He has truly made a difference, professionally and personally.”

Kurth offered his own take on his experience here. “I have had 13 incredible years at Cincinnati Children’s. To have participated in Cincinnati Children’s evolving into a world leader in pediatric healthcare, research and education during this time was a rewarding experience. The dedication, skill, and enthusiasm of all Cincinnati Children’s employees contributed to this accomplishment. I enjoyed playing a leadership role in advancing the organization and to helping patients and families in Cincinnati and the world get well and stay well. I will miss everyone!”

Kurth will leave Cincinnati Children’s in June. Daniel Choo, MD, director, Pediatric Otolaryngology, has been leading a national search committee for his replacement. John McAuliffe, MD, will serve as interim Chief of Anesthesia.

Says Fisher, “We have a strong Anesthesia group, and I am confident that under John’s guidance they will continue to provide outstanding service.”
