About

Biography

The primary goal of my work is to increase use of modern theory measurement methods in all areas of biomedical research. My research interests include study design, clinical trials, measure and scale development, mixed-methods research and empirical bioethics.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have funded many of my research studies over the years. I have had the pleasure to serve on the Society for Clinical Data Management’s Board of Trustees, Pfizer’s Ethics Fellowship review panel, and as a content area expert for the U.S. Department of Labor. One of the recognitions that I am most proud of in my career is the Cincinnati Children's Hospital's 2014 Service Achievement Award.

My research career spans more than 30 years, and I joined Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 2007. I have authored or co-authored three textbooks and more than 130 peer-reviewed publications within the fields of biomedical and behavioral science. I’ve served on the editorial board of several professional journals and been a reviewer for numerous others.

My research has been published in various leading journals, including Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Bioethics and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
